Transitional Nude Photography
Having A Backup Theme Helps!
Often you hear me describe in my books, photoblogs, photography workshops and just about anywhere, where photographers should always have “working themes” in their minds during any photo shoot—so the shoot can transition into other photos, especially when you run out of ideas. While I have several themes I work on, one of my favorites and the one you’ll probably see or hear me bring up often is my “One Light, One Chair” theme.
This theme involves a chair of any kind, whether it’s a standard, four-legged chair or the seat of a forklift, any place where the model can sit or maneuver around. The other important element is the lighting. While I prefer to ignore the ambient lighting and utilize a specific directional light, sometimes the ambient or natural light is all I need, other times I break out a portable studio strobe. Sometimes I’ll just remove the lampshade off a standard household lamp, but the idea is to keep it to one main light source even if that means knocking out another light source through camera settings.
