Daytime Nude–Virgin Islands
This image of Playboy model Michelle, was photographed during one of my Virgin Islands photography workshops. I wanted the model slightly brighter than the sky, so I used both artificial and reflected light sources.
A mini California Sunbounce reflector was mounted on a stand to the camera left, reflecting some of the sunlight on the model. This technique is sometimes called “kicker,” where just a tad of light is mixed in with the main light. Sometimes kicker lights are beauty dishes or small strip boxes and they are usually powered down about 1/3 to 1/2 of an F/stop from the main light reading.
I used a Hensel Integra 500 Pro Plus monolight with a white, 22-inch Hensel Beauty Dish, which had it’s center dome removed, this is a feature unique to this beauty dish that takes five seconds to remove, unlike other beauty dishes where the dome is bolted on. I placed a 30-degree grid where the center dome is mounted, also a feature unique to this beauty dish. I also placed a Rosco 1/8 CTO on the front of the beauty dish to give Michelle some warmth.
